BECF has contributed £5,000 to a RNLI crew member’s appeal for life saving treatment. Ian Dundas was recently diagnosed with an inoperable malignant brain tumour and the NHS will not take his case further. He is seeking funding for £155,000 for six months of private treatment to shrink the tumour and then a vaccine to kill it off.
Ian Dundas spent 15 years saving others as part of Salcombe lifeboat crew aboard the Baltic Exchange funded lifeboat. In 2021 he was awarded the RNLI Bronze Medal for his part in the dramatic rescue of two yachtsmen trapped in their yacht in a gully at night in high winds by using a small inflatable boat launched from the larger Baltic Exchange III All Weather Lifeboat which could not reach them.
